Meningococcemia in a patient coinfected with hepatitis C virus and HIV.
We describe the first reported case of meningococcemia in a patient coinfected with hepatitis C virus and HIV. Hypocomplementemia secondary to hepatic dysfunction may have enhanced the patient's susceptibility to meningococcal infection.
متن کاملVertical Transmission of Hepatitis C Virus Subtype 1a in HCV/HIV Coinfected Patient: A Case Report
Introduction: Vertical transmission of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is not commonly reported in literature. Although rare, it is one of the leading causes of HCV infection in early childhood. Coinfection of HCV with Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) has been frequently associated with enhanced vertical transmission of HCV. Case presentation: We present the case of a lady found positive for HCV/HIV...

All patients with HIV infection should be screened for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Preventive HBV vaccination is less effective in HIV-infected patients than in those without HIV infection. Emtricitabine, lamivudine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (tenofovir) each have activity against HIV and HBV. In HBV/HIV-coinfected patients, if HBV or HIV treatment is needed, it should be initiat...
متن کاملMicrobial translocation and liver disease progression in women coinfected with HIV and hepatitis C virus.
BACKGROUND Microbial translocation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. We sought to determine whether markers of microbial translocation are associated with liver disease progression during coinfection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). METHODS We measured serial plasma lipopolysaccharide (LPS), endotoxin core antibody, in...
